SPECIAL ASSEMBLY ON DIWALI, ’THE FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS’
APS Bathinda celebrated Diwali with great fanfare, devotion & excitement. A special assembly was organized by the students of class IX C & class V G to mark the occasion. The assembly commenced with Gayatri Mantra followed by prayer, thought & news. Students of V G brought out the essence of the festival, celebration of life & goodness through a speech. Students of IX C highlighted the significance of Diwali through a talk. A poem on Diwali & rhythmic dance by the students of V G showcased the spirit of Diwali. A skit was presented by students of class IX C conveying the message of clean, peaceful & cracker free Diwali. At the end, Principal Ma’am addressed the students wishing them a Happy Diwali & sensitizing them about eco-friendly Diwali.

ECO-FRIENDLY DIWALI CAMPAIGN
Eco-Friendly Diwali Campaign was organized by the students of class IX of APS Bathidna. The message of clean, peaceful & cracker free Diwali was conveyed through street play organized by the IX class students in different groups in different localities of the Bathinda Mil Stn. Students sensitized the people about the significance of eco-friendly Diwali through their mesmerizing performances in the street play.

WORKSHOP: PROTECTION OF CHILDREN FROM SEXUAL OFFENCES ACT 2012
PRESENTED BY: MAJOR PAWANDEEP
DATED: 13.10.2017
The above mentioned workshop was conducted at APS Bathinda to make the employees of APS aware about POCSO Act that was implemented by the Indian Constitution in 2012.
Salient features of POCSO Act were discussed and explained in detail.
Beside POCSO Act, the topic also covered role of school and measure to be taken by school authorities as precaution in a well-defined way.

PRIZE DISTRIBUTION CEREMONY
A prize distribution ceremony was held in the school on 10th Oct for Inter APS Debate Competition Results & SXMUN. Inter APS Debate Competition was held on 3rd & 4th October at APS Kanpur, where APS Bathinda bagged IVth overall team position in English Debate and ranked IInd in Overall team position in Hindi Debate. Aftab Tariq of class VIIIth was adjudged as the Best Interjector & awarded with the trophy & cash prize.
Model United Nations (MUN) was held at St. Xaviers School on 7th & 8th Oct, where 25 students of APS Bathinda represented the School & won many accolades. Udit Sharma of XIIth Sci was adjudged as Best Delegate in Security Council. APS Bathinda was awarded with 2 High Commendation, 2 Special Commendation & 2 Verbal Commendation in the SXMUN other participants were awarded certificates of appreciation. At the end Principal Ma’am appreciated the efforts of the participants & congratulated them.

SWC Inter APS Hindi & English Debate Competition 2017 was held at APS, Kanpur on 3rd & 4th Oct, 2017. Students of APS, Bathinda participated in the competition and the results are as follows-

SX MUN
Students of APS, Bathinda participated in the MUN hosted by St. Xavier’s School, and won many accolades for the same. APS Bathinda won four awards and three verbal commendations and other participants equally made the school proud with their efforts. Certificates of appreciation were awarded to all the students. SWACHH BHART MISSION
In view of the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s clarion call to achieve a New India by 2022 under Swachh Sankalp Se Swachh Siddhi, a concerted effort was put up by the Army Public School, Bathinda under the Social Service & Community Development Action Plan-2017. An awareness rally was organized by the NCC cadets of APS, Bathinda in the residential areas of the Military Cantt from 26th Sep, 2017 to 28th Sept, 2017. The cadets sensitized the families about the significance of Clean India Green India through slogans, door to door campaigns, personal interactions & distribution of leaflets. The core objective of the rally was to generate mass involvement in Swachh Bhart Mission and related issues.

PETROLEUM CONSERVATION RESEARCH ASSOCIATION (PCRA) PAINTING COMPETITION (2017)
As a part of mandate of PCRA, under the aegis of Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, Govt of India, various literary & cultural events are conducted for school students to make oil conservation a National Movement. Eventually a Painting Competition was organized in the school to raise awareness among them about practical conservation tips for the conservation of petroleum products & how to practice such conservation.
The Painting Competition was conducted under two categories on 4th Sept, 2017
Category 1: Junior Class V-VI
Category 2: Senior Class VIII to X
Two best paintings from each category were selected & uploaded on the PCRA portal.

SPECIAL ASSEMBLY ON TEACHER’S DAY
5th Sept, 2017 was celebrated as Teacher’s day with full zeal & enthusiasm in the school. A Special Assembly was conducted by class XI & XII students. Assembly commenced with a short prayer & a thought. Brilliant performances of primary wing were witnessed as the little angles came up with the group dance, speech & poem on Teacher’s Day. The Sr. Wing too mesmerised the audience with their Group Dance & Group Song. The highlights of the assembly were the beautiful quotes presented by the children to the Principal, Vice Principal, Headmistress & all teachers of Primary Wing & Senior Wing. The Principal addressed the children & appreciated their sincere efforts & dedication put in for the assembly.

An Inter House English Debate Competition was held on 24th Aug, 2017 for class X. Topic was ‘It’s sometimes right for the government to restrict the freedom of speech’. Participants were divided in three categories –

AWARENESS ON ‘RALLY FOR RIVERS’
A special assembly was conducted by Student Council (XI-XII) on 31st Aug, 2017 in the school premises to sensitize the children on the importance of rivers. Various representatives of class V to XII, Student Council of Primary Wing & Senior Wing attended the assembly. Highlights of the assembly were speech on the importance of saving rivers, modules conveying the message to Rally for Rivers and pledge to save the rivers. Video Modules on Rally for Rivers were also shown in all classes, where teachers encouraged the children to do their bit to save India’s lifelines & motivate their parents to give a missed call on 8000980009 to quantify public support & represent citizen’s vote. A missed call was also given by the School as a vote in support of reviving our rivers. A collaborative art work by students on Rally for Rivers will be organized on 25th Sep, 2017.

VISIT TO CHETAK WASTE PAPER RECYCLING PLANT
A visit to Chetak Waste Paper Recycling Plant was organized by the School on 23rd Aug for class VIII. A group of 35 students accompanied by teachers visited the Recycling Plant. The aim of the visit was to acquaint the children with the manufacturing process & various benefits of recycling of waste paper. Technical staff explained the students about the overall management & working system of the plant. They were apprised about processes involved in the recycling process and how it prevents environmental degradation.

Inter House Football Knock Out Matches were conducted on 21st Aug, 17 for class IX-X. The results are as follows-

MOTIVATIONAL TALK ON PROSPECTS OF JOINING INDIAN ARMY
A motivational talk by Army Officers was organized on 18th Aug, 2017 in the school premises for XI & XII students. The focus of the session was to acquaint the children with career prospects in the Indian Army. The highlights were the Role & Organization of Indian Army, Life in the Army, Emoluments, Entry Schemes & Professional Institutes for Higher Education.

The month of August witnessed various activities being organized for the Independence Day Celebrations. Prize distribution ceremony was held on 16th Aug to appreciate the students for their efforts, enthusiasm & participation. INTER HOUSE GROUP DANCE COMPETITION
There are short cuts to happiness and dancing is one of them. Dance is powerful because its’ a visual art form. When we try to translate the vitality of our life energy into fluid moves, we dance.
Keeping in tune with the Independence Day celebrations an Inter House Group Dance competition was conducted on 16th Aug for class VII & VIII. Theme was Patriotism. Children of all four houses participated with great zeal & enthusiasm. Results of the completion are as follows-

CAREER COUNSELLING SESSION FOR CLASS X
A career counselling session was organized on 16th Aug in the school premises for class X students. A team of educationists from the Aakash Educational Services Pvt. Ltd counselled the children regarding their career options. The session covered Career Path to Achieve Education, Importance of Foundation courses, Nurturing Life Skills & Career Options other than Medical & Engineering. Emphasis was laid on the Psychometric Assessment to measure behaviour & personality.

INTER-HOUSE STREET PLAY OR ‘NUKKAD NATAK’ COMPETITION
A street play / ‘nukkad natak’, is characterized by highly enthusiastic and energetic performance so as to attract maximum crowd. During 11th August – 14th August 2017 and inter-house Street play competition was conducted in the school premises where students of class IX of each House Stage a street play on Independence Theme. The topic allotted was, “Diversity: The art of thinking independently together”.
15-20 students of each house participated in the bilingual play. Students highlighted the various issues that pose a great threat to our diversified yet united country. Props / Placards were used to lend expressions to the constructive idea of thinking together. Through their convincing performance the participants mesmerized the students & beckoned them to be a part of the work of brining change in society.

INTER- HOUSE RANGOLI MAKING COMPETITION
An inter-house Rangoli Making competition was conducted in school premises on 10th August 2017 for class VI students. Based on independence theme, the topic allotted was, ‘My Patriotic Heart Beats-Orange, White & Green’.
Six students of each house participated in the competition and exhibited their knack in the art by Making aesthetic Rangoli designs on the floor.

INTER HOUSE DISPLAY BOARD COMPETITION
An inter house display board competition was held on 1st August 2017 in school premises. Keeping in tune with the Independence Day Celebrations, the topic allotted was, ‘Every Heart Beats……Let Freedom Ring’.
All the four Houses displayed their talent, their creative & aesthetic skills. The students of each house worked with great enthusiasm & co-ordination.

Let’s Salute the nation on this auspicious day.
Independence Day i.e. 15th August was celebrated with great enthusiasm and respect in the school premises at 7:30 am. The Principal, Vice Principal & Head Mistress welcomed the Chief Guest, Brig R B Dogra, (Chairman APS Bathinda) and Mrs. R B Dogra, (Principal Asha School) and Col Sanjeev Sehgal.
The programme began with a prayer- Gayatri Mantra. The Chief Guest unfurled the tri color and all in unison sang the National Anthem and expressed the joy of freedom. Student of class X expressed views on the significance of Independence Day. The students of class V rekindled the spirit of patriotism through a patriotic song. The Chief Guest Brig R B Dogra addressed the gathering emphasizing the true meaning of freedom & necessity to inculcate it within us. He highlighted the marked achievements along the lines of development & progress in the country and laid stress on the importance of hard work. The programme concluded with the vote of thanks by the Head Girl. At the end sweets were distributed among the students.

TREE PLANTATION DRIVE
A special tree plantation drive was carried out on 14th Aug, 2017 in the school premises as a part of social service and community development. The NCC students showed great enthusiasm and actively participated in the drive & planted saplings. The aim was to create social awareness about the importance of tree plantation & connect students to the benefits of trees and foster environmental stewardship. It’s a learning opportunity to get kids involved in the environment & conservation of natural resources.

SPECIAL ASSEMBLY ON JANAMASHTAMI
‘Festivals are characterized by colour, gaiety, enthusiasm, prayers & rituals’.
On the occasion of Janamashtami, a festival which commemorates the earthly arrival of Lord Krishna, a special assembly was organized in the school by the students of class X-C on 14th Aug 2017. The assembly began with a prayer followed by a thought on Lord Krishna’s teachings. News was delivered by the students. Mrs. Satwinder Sidhu expressed her views regarding the life & teachings of Lord Krishna’s encouraged the students to follow the path of truth & honesty & shun evil. The highlights of the assembly were the poem recited by a student & dance performed by students of class X-C celebrating the goodwill & togetherness inspired by Lord Krishna.

FESTIVAL OF IDEAS – EXHIBITION (2017-18)
An exhibition display was organized on 5th Aug in the school premises where students show cased their innate potential by creating exemplary models. The exhibition displayed a high level of creativity & innovation. Different venues were allotted to the Science, Mathematics, Social Science, Economics, Commerce & Language Departments.
Hundreds of displays dolled several sections of school with participation ranging from Junior Wing to Senior Wing. The exhibition was a huge success. Enthusiasm and effervescence overflowed amongst students, teachers and parents. Exhibition focused on ingraining a scientific and creative attitude in students to make them comprehend the inter dependence of science, technology and society by hands on experience. Principal complimented the team of students and teachers for the efforts that had gone into creating a show of this magnitude.

‘There are many ways to enlarge your child’s world.
Love of Books is The Best of All’.
To enhance the literary skills of the students and imbibe in them good reading habits, a Book Fair is being organized by Scholastics India Today in school premises from 1st Aug to 5th Aug. The event was graced and inaugurated by the Chairman. Principal & Vice Principal were also present during the inauguration. A wide range of books from all disciplines of education are displayed. Students will visit the book fair at regular intervals & get a broader vision & an opportunity to enjoy the company of books.

INTER HOUSE QUIZ COMPETITION
An Inter House Quiz Competition was conducted in the school on 10th July, 2017 for class VIII. Four teams comprising of two participants from each House participated in the Quiz Competition. The event was presided over by the Principal & Vice-Principal. Staff & students played the role of cheerful audience thereby applauding the sincere efforts put forward by each team. The event covered the academics, current affairs, sports, entertainment etc. The enthusiasm, eagerness & competitive spirit of the teams could be witnessed in the form of a tie breaker round for the respective positions.

ROBOTICS WORKSHOP
A workshop on Robotics was organized on 5th July in the school for the Computer & Science teachers of classes VI-VIII. The workshop was conducted by the representatives of SKYRIM Innovation Pvt. Ltd. The teachers were appraised about the integrated curriculum that creates a natural progression for learning by getting students in the mindset of being able to think about application & possibilities Demonstration & Activities were conducted on providing practical hands on experience to the students. The need of Robotics, how it helps the students, Lab Solutions, Implementations & Evaluation techniques were the highlights of the workshop.

INVESTITURE CEREMONY 2017-18

“ If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more & become more, then you are a leader”- John Quiney Adams.
The school held the Investiture Ceremony, 2017 on 6th July with great enthusiasm. The Investiture Ceremony marked a significant beginning of the new academic year. It was a solemn occasion where the young students were all prepared to don the mantle of leadership and discharge the responsibilities entrusted upon them by the school. To inculcate the leadership qualities in students & to give them a sense of responsibility the new ‘Student Council‘ is formed every year.
The event began at 7:30 am. The ceremony was presided over by the Principal. The Vice principal, Staff and students attended the ceremony. Piping ceremony was followed by the oath administration to the new Student Council by the School Head Boy. The Principal addressed the student Council & encouraged them to be committed & to remember that leadership comes with integrity.
The newly inducted Head Girl proposed the Vote of Thanks. The ceremony was concluded with the National Anthem.

SPECIAL ASSEMBLY ON VAN MAHOTSAV

A special assembly was conducted on 4th July on Van Mahotsav in the junior and senior wing of the school. During the assembly the students were sensitized for the need of conservation of forests. The highlights of the assembly were the views shared by students of class XI Commerce and Class IV H. Students displayed the placards with the message ‘Save Trees’. The origin of Van Mahotsav and its importance in nurturing the environment was highlighted.

MOTHER’S DAY

Mother’s Day is a great opportunity to say thanks for all the wonderful things our mothers do for us. It is a day to celebrate and show gratitude and respect to them. To celebrate this day, a special assembly was organized in the school by the students of class XI B (Sc) on 12 May 2017. The assembly began with a prayer which was followed by a pledge and student talk on the importance of mothers. The highlight of the day was a song sung by Taranjeet.

SPECIAL ASSEMBLY BUDDHA PURNIMA

A special assembly on Buddha Purnima was held in the school by the students of class XI B. The assembly began with a prayer, followed by thought and news. Mrs. Kiran Bala PGT (Bio) expressed her views regarding the life and teachings of Buddha. She motivated the children by telling them that the greatest gift that they can give to someone is their time, love and attention.

A workshop was conducted by Proctor & Gamble for the girls of classes VI & VII on 08 May 2017. It focused on hygiene program for young girls so that they can easily cope with the changes they go through at their age with confidence.

Music gives wings to the minds, flight to the imagination & life to everything. With this feeling, an Inter House Solo Song Competition was held on 8th May 2017, in the school for class 7. It being Mother’s Day, the theme of the competition was ‘Mother’. The children from different houses showcased their talents. The results of the competition are:

WORKSHOP BY MRS GUL NAT FOR ENGLISH TEACHERS

The field of phonetics is a multilayered subject of linguistics that focuses on speech. A workshop on Phonetics, by Mrs. Gul Nat was organized in the school, for the English Teachers on 06 May 2017. This provided an opportunity for the teachers to learn the techniques to improve pronunciation and communication skills of the children.

LABOUR DAY

A special assembly was conducted by the students of Class XI A on the occasion of Labour Day, so that the students learn dignity of labour and respect every hardworking fellow human being. The program began with a talk by Khush Jain on the origin and significance of Labour Day. The highlight of the assembly was the group song ‘Saathi Haath Badhana’ sung by all the students.

AWES RAISING DAY

AWES Raising Day was celebrated in the school with patriotic fervor and gaiety an 29 April 2017. A special assembly was organized by the students of Class XII Arts. The assembly commenced with the school prayer. A special talk was delivered by Mr. Rajesh Kumar, PGT(Geog) highlighting the significance of the day. He threw light on the foundation of the Army Welfare Education Society & salient features of Army Public Schools. The students were sensitized about the professional colleges which have been setup under the aegis of AWES in the form of a skit. The program concluded with the AWES song, inspiring students to achieve excellence in their pursuits.

INTER HOUSE KHO-KHO

Sports play a major role in shaping the personality of a child. In APS, Bathinda, our constant efforts are to develop the personality of our children by nurturing every aspect of their life. An Inter House Kho-Kho championship was organized in the school on 22nd April 2017 for the girls and boys of class VI. The matches were played on knock out basis. The final match was played between Ashoka House and Pratap House for girls and between Shivaji House and Pratap House for boys.

EARTH DAY

Earth Day is celebrated all over the world as a reminder that we have a beautiful gift in the form of Planet Earth. The Earth Day Assembly was conducted on 21 April 2017 by the children of class XII Commerce. It began with a prayer followed by a talk by Mrs. Rajni Bansal, which focused on the beauty and goodness of our Mother Earth. The Children took a pledge to be defenders and friends of the Earth.

WORLD HERITAGE DAY

The school celebrated world Heritage Day on 18 April 2017 with zeal and enthusiasm. A special assembly was conducted by the students of class XII Commerce with an aim to ingrain in children the values of culture and preservation of heritage. All the students took an oath wherein they pledged to strive earnestly to preserve their glorious heritage and pass on this tradition unblemished to the coming generations.
SPECIAL ASSEMBLY – BAISAKHI

Keeping with the tradition of celebrating all festivals with fervour and gaiety and introducing the children to their rich culture and heritage, a student talk was delivered on the importance of Baisakhi and the history related to it.
INTER HOUSE DISPLAY BOARD COMPETITION

An Inter House Display Board Competition was organized in the school premises. The topic allotted to all the houses was – ‘Attitude is the Mind’s Paintbrush’. All the four houses displayed their talent and their creative and aesthetic skills. The innovative ideas of the House staff and students could be seen in the form of excellent colour display as the topic was depicted in their own creative ways. This not only brought out the creativity of the students but they also learnt to work as a team to achieve a common goal.

MOTIVATIONAL TALK ON JOINING INDIAN ARMY

A seminar to educate and motivate the students about joining the Indian Armed Forces was organized in the school on 27 March 2017. The lecture delivered by Maj Raj Kumar & Lt Ashutosh, was heard by the students of class XII. They informed the audience about the salient features of the army. They spoke about the challenging life, professionalism, unit ethos, secularism and other aspects of the army. The students of the school interacted with them and asked questions related to the different branches of the armed forces.
